Caused by a fungus that includes orange spots that develop at the point of infection, typically, the leaves of the plant. This produces orange gelatinous tendrils or “fingers”. Spores from these “fingers” are blown to apple trees where they germinate & infect leaves, fruit and occasionally twigs. Treatment includes an insecticide to control insects from eating and distorting the fruit.
Host Plants: Apple, Crabapple, Hawthorn & Junipers
Damage: Rust lesions on fruit spots, Galls may form, Yellowish-orange spots on leaves, Early leaf drop.
